Egypt win CAF National Team of the Year award

Egypt national team
has been awarded the 2017 CAF National Team of the Year award after beating off competition from Cameroon and Nigeria.

Egypt was named best national team in Africa during the annual CAF Awards event held in Ghanaian capital Accra on Thursday. They were competing against Cameroon who won the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and Nigeria who reached the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The Pharaohs started off 2017 with participating in the Africa Cup of Nations after failing to qualify for the tournament’s last three editions. They also managed to reach the final before losing the title to Cameroon.

In October, Egypt beat Congo 2-1 in Alexandria to seal top spot in Group E of the World Cup qualifiers, and secure their qualification to the global showpiece in Russia, ending a 28-year wait for a World Cup appearance.

Egypt head coach Hector Cuper has also been named CAF Coach of the Year.
