Davide Massa assigned as referee for Cairo derby
The Egyptian Football Association have assigned Italian referee Davide Massa to officiate the Cairo derby between Al Ahly and Zamalek on January 8.
Al Ahly and Zamalek will go into their meeting together with eight points separating them. Al Ahly hold the second place with 36 points after their uncomplicated 4-0 victory over Al Nasr in the preceding round, one point behind leaders Ismaily, while Zamalek squandered the chance to gain a spot in the top 3 after their 1-0 defeat to Tala’a El-Gaish.
The Referees Committee in the EFA have named Massa as the main referee of the game, where he will be accompanied by Andrea Crespo and Fabiano Preti as the two linesmen, while Maurizio Mariani will be the fourth official.
The renowned 36-year-old referee took charge of nine Serie A games so far this season. He made his professional debut in the Italian first division in 2011. He is known for his strictness and his multitude of showing red cards.
