Al-Masry sign Syrian defender Abdallah El-Shamy
Port Said club Al-Masry announced the signing of former Al-Ahly defender Abdallah El-Shamy following his recent departure from the current champions.
The Syrian international was signed on a free transfer with a 18 months long contract, just a couple of days after he was released by the Red Devils.
The 24 year-old joined Al-Ahly during the summer but failed to make any official appearance for the Cairo giants, managing to play just once during the dying minutes of their friendly game against Atletico Madrid.
El-Shamy joined Al-Ahly after the EFA ruled that Palestinian and Syrian players would be treated the same as Egyptians with regard to being registered as domestic players.
Hossam Hassan’s side were very active during the January transfer window successfully signing three other players such as Al-Makasa goalkeeper Ahmed Massoud, Al Nasr midfielder Eslam Eissa, Burkinabé forward Issouf Ouattara from Wadi Degla and Smouha player Walid Hassan.
Al-Masry currently sit in the third position in the Egyptian Premier League with 30 points. They will be facing Al-Ahly in their next game in the Egyptian Super Cup in Abu Dhabi. El-Shamy is set to play his first game for his new side during this game, if the procedures of registration are finalized by the Egyptian FA by then.
