Hossam El-Badry stresses importance of Egypt Super Cup win
The Super Cup will take place at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in the United Arab Emirates, on Friday, January 12, four days after the Cairo derby.
The Portsaid-based club will take place in their first ever Super Cup despite losing the 2017 Egypt Cup final to Al Ahly, as the Reds have managed to win the Egyptian Premier League as well.
El-Badry insisted that the club’s goal is to make their fans everywhere happy, especially that he trusts that they will be at the stadium, supporting the club like they always do when Al Ahly visit the UAE.
“The encounter is important as the players and I want to start 2018 with a trophy,” El-Badry said on Wednesday.
“I’m working hard with the players to overcome all the circumstances surrounding the game and concentrate only on the Super Cup in hopes of achieving the title, which we lost last season.
“We are facing a tough opponent and I know their strengths and weaknesses, especially that we faced each other multiple times before in many competitions,” he added.
The Red’s coach added that he will be looking to use the spirit and performance that the club put out during their last game against Zamalek, where they thrashed their rivals 3-0, and hopes that this spirit will lead them to the title.
Al Ahly are the record holders of the tournament with nine titles, six more than rivals Zamalek. While Arab Contractors and Haras El-Hodood have managed to win it only once.
Al Masry will become the eighth club to feature in the Egyptian Super Cup after Al Ahly, Zamalek, Ghazl El-Mahalla, ENPPI, Ismaily and Haras El-Hodood.
