Osama Nabih confident about reaching World Cup second round
Egyptian national team assistant coach Osama Nabih is confident that Egypt will qualify for the World Cup round of 16.
2017 was a year full of achievements for Egyptian football as the national team was able to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia for the first time in 28 years and were also runners-up in the African Cup of Nations after losing 2-1 to Cameroon in the final.
Those were the accomplishments that made Nabih so sure that Egypt is able to surprise everyone in the biggest tournament in the footballing world.
“I’m confident that we will surprise everyone at the World Cup, and I assure you that we will qualify for the second round,” Nabih told ON Sport.
The former Zamalek assistant coach also emphasized on Egypt’s dominance in the 2017 CAF annual awards: “We were awarded both best team and best manager as well as best player. Salah and Fathi featured in the African team of the year, which proves that we are on the right track.”
Egypt were drawn alongside hosts Russia, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay. They will kick-off their World Cup campaign against La Celeste on June 15, they will then face hosts Russia on June 19 and will end their group stage by playing Saudi Arabia on June 25.
