Hossam El-Badry was confident of victory over Al Masry
Al Ahly manager Hossam El-Badry expressed his happiness after earning a ‘tough’ victory over Al Masry to win the Egyptian Super Cup at Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium on Friday.
Al Ahly clinched a 1-0 win over the Port Said-based club to win the game that was held at Al Ain, UAE. The game’s only goal came in the first half of the extra time after Moroccan forward Walid Azaro capitalised on a silly mistake from Al Masry goalkeeper Ahmed Mas’oud to claim Al Ahly’s 10th Super Cup title.
The Red Devils manager thanked his players for sticking to his tactics and dedicated the win to the Al Ahly fans.
“I was confident of victory. Winning the Super Cup after winning the derby will help the team keep its momentum and continue in this form,” El-Badry told the press after the game.
Al Ahly’s win over Al Masry comes less than a week after they defeated the White Castle 3-0 in the Egyptian Premier League.
El-Badry also spoke about their opponent, saying that Al Masry’s attacking tactics helped his side win the game.
“We managed to get Al Masry to play the way we wanted as we gave them no option to attack except through playing long balls,” El-Badry told Abu Dhabi Sports TV.
“We were expecting Al Masry to be impulsive or conservative and we were ready for both scenarios. Thankfully, we won in spite of our players misfortunes in front of the goal,” he added.
Both Al Ahly and Al Masry are set to return to Egyptian Premier League action on Tuesday as the Red Castle will face Tala’a El-Gaish and Al Masry will meet with Wadi Degla in the 18th round of the competition.
