EXCLUSIVE: West Bromwich Albion submit offer to sign Ali Gabr
West Brom have sent an offer to Zamalek ahead of the potential signing of Ali Gabr from the White Castle in the January transfer window in an attempt to strengthen their side.
The club seemingly grew fond of Egyptian defenders after the success of Ahmed Hegazi since arriving last summer on loan from Al Ahly, with the management exercising their option to buy a few weeks ago despite having that option until the end of this season.
The ‘Nesta of the Pyramids’ arrived at the Hawthorns with a bang after scoring on his league debut to guide the team to the first of only two wins this season.
West Bromwich have not had the perfect first-half of the season so far, recording two wins, drawing 11 and losing 10 in the Premier League this season and so, look to Ali Gabr in an attempt to tighten up their back-line in hopes of a better finish to the season.
After signing Hegazi, former West Brom manager Tony Pulis had confirmed the club were looking at Hegazi’s defensive partner in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Ali Gabr) before signing the Al Ahly defender. They now hope to conclude the deal in the coming few days.
Gabr, 29, has been a revelation since joining Zamalek from Ittihad of Alexandria in 2014, guiding the team to a league title, a cup double and one Egyptian Super Cup.
The player also made 18 appearances for the Egyptian National team as he helped the Pharaohs reach the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since 2010, reach the final of the competition in Gabon in the absence of Rami Rabia and qualifying to the first FIFA World Cup for Egypt since 1990, their third time in history.
