VIDEO: Walid Soliman goal completes Al Ahly comeback over Makkasa

Ahly beat Makkasa
Al Ahly produced a late comeback as they beat Misr El-Makkasa 2-1 at the Cairo International Stadium to remain top of the table.

Despite the defeat, Makkasa remain the only team who managed to defeat Al Ahly this season after earning a 3-2 victory over the Red Devils last month.

The reigning champions had a strong start to the game, dominating the possession as Makkasa sat deep inviting the pressure in the early minutes of the game.

The game was turned on its head in the 27th minute when the referee awarded Makkasa a penalty after John Antwi was fouled by Al Ahly keeper Mohamed El-Shennawy. The Ghanaian forward converted from the spot to hand the visitors the lead.

Makkasa piled more and more pressure on the hosts following their opening goal and grew confidence as the game went on.

Al Ahly responded strongly as the second half started and almost levelled the scoreline in the 54th minute but Moroccan forward Walid Azaro’s header was disallowed by the referee for offside.

The Cairo giants’ hard work paid dividends around 10 minutes later when Abdallah El-Said’s cross was met by Junior Ajayi, who had a brilliant first touch to control the ball and then slotted it in to make it 1-1.

In the 84th minute, Ajayi was through on goal and went one-on-one with Makkasa keeper. The Nigerian was completely unselfish as he laid off the ball to a free Walid Soliman, who fired into the empty net to complete Al Ahly’s comeback.

The Red Castle blew a number of chances to extend their lead in the dying minutes of the match as the game ended in a 2-1 victory for Al Ahly.

Al Ahly now top the league with 45 points, four above second-placed Ismaily, while Makkasa extended their run of poor results to sit 12th on 21 points.
