Mohamed El-Shenawy: I hope to represent Egypt in the 2018 World Cup
After recently taking the starting role ahead of Sherif Ekramy, El-Shenawy discussed the possiblity of joining the national team and his hopes for his current club.
“I am currently focusing on the league games. I hope to represent Egypt in the 2018 World Cup, It’s a big dream for me and I will do my best to honor my club and my country,” said the shot stopper.
“I have a great relationship with Sherif Ekramy, Ahmed Adel and Mossad Awad. At Al Ahly we support whoever is starting, the important thing here is winning not who will take the starting spot.”
El-Shenawy continued his interview talking about his past experience with Petrojet, Tala’a El-Gaish and his current status with the national team.
“I was the first choice for seven seasons at my two previous clubs Petrojet and Tala’a El-Gaish which gave me enough experience to deal with the time I spent on the at Al Ahly,” continued the 29-year-old
“There has been no contact between me and the national team’s goalkeeper coach Ahmed Nagy, I am only focusing on my work with my club now.”
The last time El-Shenawy received a call up for the national team was back in 2017 at the Africa Cup of Nations qualifications against Nigeria.
