Official: Ghana’s Majeed Waris joins FC Porto on loan
Portuguese league leaders FC Porto have completed the signing of Ghana international striker Abdul-Majeed Waris from FC Lorient on loan until the end of the season.
FC Porto have announced that they have sealed the services of the 26-year-old striker on loan from the French second division side. He will spend the rest of the season at Estadio Do Dragao after agreeing terms with the club.
Lorient have also revealed that the deal includes a buyout clause worth €6m.
Waris joined Lorient in 2015 from Turkish side Trabzonspor, scoring 24 goals in 72 appearances with the French side.
The former FC Spartak Moscow striker has promised to fight “for the jersey”, rather than for individual “glory”.
“I’m not here for personal glory. I am very happy and ready to give everything I have so that the club can succeed and win trophies”, the forward told the club’s official website.
The Ghanaian forward, who previously played in Sweden, Russia and Turkey, was the top scorer of the Swedish championship in the 2012 season at the age of 21, after scoring 23 goals for BK Häcken. He also scored four goals in 25 caps with Ghana national team.
He added that he’s looking to develop a good connection with other forwards at FC Porto, including Vincent Aboubakar, Moussa Marega and Yacine Brahimi.
“They are fantastic players; they pretty much score all the time. I am also here to help the team score more goals and win. We can probably score a few more goals together.
“That is the most important thing: not who scores, but that we do it together,” he added.
