World No.1 Nour El-Sherbini defeated fellow Egyptian to lift her second Tournament of Champions title, while her compatriot Tarek Momen lost the men’s final.

This year three Egyptians have reached the Tournament of Champions final, which is held at the Grand Central Terminal’s Vanderbilt Hall in New York.

In the men’s competition, Egypt’s Tarek Momen lost the final to Simon Rösner, who became the first ever German to win a PSA World Series tournament. He also became the first non-Egyptian player to lift the title since England’s Nick Matthew in 2012.

Meanwhile, El-Sherbini beat Nour El-Tayeb 3-2 (2-11, 11-6, 4-11, 11-7, 11-7) to lift her 15th title, and her fifth win this season.

This championship is El-Sherbini’s third World Series title in a row, after twice fighting back from a game down against U.S. Open champion Nour El Tayeb.

It was also the 22-year-old’s fifth successive PSA World Tour final appearance. She has recently won the World Series at the Saudi PSA Women’s Masters and Hong Kong Open.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling right now, I cannot describe it,” El-Sherbini said.

“I’m extremely happy, I couldn’t have asked for a better start to 2018. I’ve been playing well and this is my fifth final in a row. I worked really hard in the summer and have been trying to enjoy playing when I’m out there and that hard work is paying off right now.

“Hopefully I can keep this momentum going for the rest of the season,” she added.

Both El-Sherbini and Men’s champion Rösner will receive $24,000 for their victories, with the Tournament of Champions committing to equal prize money for the third year in succession.
