OFFICIAL: Hossam Ghaly rejoins Al Ahly until end of the season
Team captain Hossam Ghaly has rejoined Al Ahly until the end of the season following the termination of his contract with Saudi side Al Nassr.
Ghaly has left Al-Nassr less than six months after joining the club on a one-year contract from Cairo giants Al Ahly. During his short stint at the Saudi side, the veteran midfielder made a total of 13 appearances, 12 in the Saudi Pro League and a single appearance in the King’s Cup.
Saudi reports have linked Ghaly with a move to Al-Fateh, who currently sit in eighth position with 22 points. However, Nader Shawky, agent of Ghaly, said that the player has turned down Al-Fateh’s offer.
The 36-year-old will battle with Hossam Ashour, Amr El-Sulya, Hesham Mohamed and Akram Tawfik for a starting spot and is expected that he will regain the team captaincy from Ashour.
Ghaly made over 295 appearances for the club since being promoted from the youth ranks in 2000, winning two Champions League titles, one CAF Confederation Cup, three league titles and two Egypt Cups.
He becomes the Red Devils’ sixth summer signing after ENPPI’s duo Ali Lotfi and Salah Mohsen, Ghazal El-Mahalla’s Mohamed Fakhri, Mohamed Sherif from Wadi Degla, and Mohamed El-Gazar from Kahraba Ismailia.
The Reds currently top the Egyptian Premier League with 51 points, nine more than second-placed Ismaily. Their next game will be against Ittihad of Alexandria on Sunday, February 2.
