Egypt through to second round of Davis Cup after win over Norway

have reached the second round of Europe/Africa zone of after defeating Norway 4-0 at Sharm El-Sheikh on Sunday.

The Egyptian national team reached the second round for the first time since 1996 after defeating Norway and will be up against Denmark away from home in the second round.

Veteran player won his singles match 2-0 (6-4, 6-1) against Simen Bratholm, before Karim Maamoun beat Viktor Durasovic 2-0 (6-0, 6-4) to take a 2-0 lead for Egypt.

Three times African Juniors Champion, , alongside Mohamed Safwat won the doubles match 2-0 (6-4, 6-4) against Bratholm and Durasovic, guiding Egypt to the second round of the competition.

This victory comes as a breath of fresh air for Hossam as the young champion was having problems regarding financial aid for having an international career.

Egypt will face Denmark, who qualified after defeating Ireland 4-1 in the first round, and the winner from this tie will meet the winner from Finland and Lithuania in the third round.
