Misr El-Makkasa announce squad for Génération Foot clash

Egyptian Premier League runner-ups have announced the squad to take on in the preliminary round of the

El-Makkasa will return to regional play for the second time in their history after having previously played in the 2016 CAF Confederation Cup, where they reached the play-off round.

Likewise, this is also Génération Foot’s second ever appearance in a CAF club competition with their first appearance in the 2016 CAF Confederation Cup where they only played in the preliminary round.

El-Makkasa reached the competition after coming in second place in the 2016/17 Egyptian Premier League behind Cairo giants Al Ahly, who will start their journey in the first round. Génération Foot qualified after winning the Premier League for the first time in their history in 2017.

The first leg will be played in Senegal’s capital on February 10, with the return leg in on February 20.

Emad Soliman, El-Makkasa’s head coach, has chosen 19 players to make the trip to Senegal. Notable absentees included Ghanaian forward John Antwi due to injury and Ahmed Samy due to personal reasons.

Midfielders: Mohamed Mosaad, Hany Said, Salah Rico, Islam Gaber, Mostafa Shebeita

Forwards: Marwan Hamdy, Ragab Omran, Paulin Voavy, Eric Traoré
