Abdel-Hafiz insists title race is not over, praises Mahlambi
Al Ahly’s director of football Sayed Abdel-Hafiz has insisted the Egyptian Premier League title race is not over after his side’s 3-0 win over Arab Contracts.
The Red Devils recorded an impressive 3-0 victory over Arab Contractors last Thursday, increasing their lead at the summit of the Egyptian Premier League table to 12 points.
And with El-Dakhleya forcing Ismaily to a goalless draw, Al Ahly now have a chance to increase the gap to 14 points if they claim another Arab Contractors win next Monday.
Abdel-Hafiz has admitted the importance of their next encounter, saying the Contractors have a great team and that the score of their last meeting is a huge motivation to achieve another win and the three points needed.
“Every win for Al Ahly is an important factor, but it doesn’t decide the league title,” Abdel-Hafiz said.
“It is unhealthy for the team to speak about claiming the league title now, especially with the team’s current performances. The league is finished when there is no possibility of compensating the points, which is still possible,” he added.
He has also praised 20-year-old Phakamani Mahlambi after his impressive performance against Arab Contractors, saying what the South African has presented is just a beginning and his determination to participate and to prove himself will have a distinctive return on him in the coming period.
Phakamani has made eight appearances for Al Ahly this season, scoring one goal and registering three assists and could feature against the Contractors next Monday, due to Ali Maaloul’s injury.
