CAF president praises Egypt national team, Al Ahly, Mohamed Salah
CAF president Ahmad Ahmad praised the Egyptian national team for achieving “everything” they could do in the year of 2017.
In a televised interview with ONSport, Ahmad had nothing but praise when asked about the Egyptian national team and its status as an up and coming team through the global ranks.
He was especially proud of the fact that Egypt had made it to the World Cup after a 28-year absence and started listing the accomplishments of the team in 2017, which included them reaching the AFCON final in Gabon.
The Malagasy also gave praise to Cairo giants Al Ahly for reaching the CAF Champions League final against Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca.
Ahmad also had praise for individual players, especially star winger Mohamed Salah: “Egypt also succeeded in having one of its players (Mohamed Salah) win the Best Player in Africa award and Egypt’s qualification for the World Cup only proves that Egyptian football has evolved.”
When asked about the Pharaohs’ chances in the World Cup, Ahmad kept it diplomatic: “Football these days is unpredictable. The team that is well-prepared almost always ends up winning the match which makes it hard determining the winning chances of each team.”
Egypt starts its road to World Cup glory in June, facing off against host country Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Uruguay.
Egypt’s opening game in the group will be against Uruguay on June 15, later on, they will face Russia in the second game on June 19 before concluding their group stage games on June 24 against Saudi Arabia.
