Ahmed Nagy: Sherif Ekramy will not be joining Egypt in friendlies
Nagy confirmed his four picks to represent the Pharaohs next March will be Zamalek’s Ahmed El-Shenawy, Al Ahly’s Mohamed El-Shennawy, Al-Taawoun’s Essam El-Hadary and Ismaily’s Mohamed Awad.
“I already spoke with Ekramy and he will return to the national team as soon he as gets more playing time,” said the coach in a televised interview.
The 34-year-old has been relegated to the bench at the Red Castle, as in-form keeper Mohamed El-Shennawy became the Al Ahly’s first choice keeper.
“I also spoke Awad too, he will be having some medical tests and expected to be out for around two weeks for a slight injury,” said Nagy in reference to Ismaily keeper Mohamed Awad, who earned his spot in the national team squad after a string of impressive performances this season.
“El-Hadary is doing great things in Saudi Arabia. He’s a great example and a role model. The World Cup is not until June and every one has the chance to join the national team.”
“The first choice goalkeeper will only be decided right after the World Cup. Things may change and someone might get injured, and I prefer not to reveal the first choice so none of them gets discouraged too,” he added.
The Pharaohs, who will play in the World Cup for the first time since 1990, will be having a training camp in Zurich, Switzerland in March where they will be facing Portugal and Greece.
