Emad Soliman resigns as Misr El-Makassa coach
The 58-year-old handed his resignation to the club’s board following their 2-0 defeat against Generations Foot in the preliminary round of the 2018 CAF Champions League.
The encounter marked the club’s first ever Champions League game as they managed to qualify for the tournament after finishing second in the 2016/2017 Egyptian Premier League season.
Soliman was appointed as El-Makassa coach in October following the sacking of Mo’men Soliman. The former Ismaily boss had a brilliant start to his career with Fayoum-based club, beating Zamalek in his fifth game in charge before beating Al Ahly, which is the Red Devils’ only defeat in the league to date.
However, the 2016/17 Egyptian Premier league runner ups failed to maintain their form. Since beating the league leaders, El-Makassa earned one victory and lost five out of 10 games. They were also knocked out of Egypt Cup after losing to Arab Contractors on penalties in the round of 16.
They currently occupy the 13th place with 24 points, three points away from the relegation zone.
