Ian Rush: I see something of Lionel Messi in Mohamed Salah

legend was full of praise and amazement of as well as comparing him with five-time Ballon D’or winner Lionel Messi.

The former Wales international spoke highly of Salah’s abilities with and without the ball and mentioned his favorite goal of the Egyptian with the Reds. Rush also spoke highly of Salah’s form and gaining interest from giants like Real Madrid.

“He has been awesome. I didn’t think he would score as many goals as he has. I see two sides of him. One where he gets beyond defenders. He is saying to his team-mates to put it there and then he gets there by using his pace. The other side of his game is when he is inside the box and I see something of Lionel Messi in him.” Ian Rush told the Times.

“Loads of his goals stick out, but the one against Bournemouth stands out for me. He was telling the man where to play the ball, he has outpaced the Bournemouth defence and then come inside. If you weren’t looking closely you could easily say it was like Messi inside the box. Then he bends it in.”

Rush concluded by explaining how Salah is different to Phillipe Coutinho and how he can stay at Liverpool for many years, unlike the Brazilian superstar whose transfer garnered a sum of hate against him from the Kop fans.

“He has been amazing. Other clubs will look at him but it’s his first year [at Liverpool]. I think Philippe Coutinho was different being South American because those players look to Barcelona and Real Madrid,” concluded Rush.
