sealed a stunning 1-0 victory over Premier League leaders to book their spot in the FA Cup quarter-final.

Egypt international was ruled out from the squad due to suspension after receiving his 10th booking of the season against Blackpool.

Manchester City started the game at the DW Stadium strongly, trying to force their domination over the League One side who defended deep in their own half.

Two minutes into the game, the guests had already had their first chance through Sergio Agüero who met Bernardo Silva’s cross with a heading effort but it went well over.

The Premier League side came close once again after four minutes when İlkay Gündoğan collected the ball and drove towards the penalty area but his shot was saved by Wigan’s goalkeeper.

Near the half-hour mark, Fernandinho had another opportunity for the Citizens but his effort went over the bar.

In the first minute of the additional time, Manchester City were forced to continue the game with 10 men, as Fabian Delph was sent off after a challenge against Max Power.

Despite enjoying 82 per cent possession, Manchester City struggled to create clear cut chances. In the 72nd minute, substitute Kevin De Bruyne played a low cross into Wigan’s penalty area, however, Aguero failed to convert from close range.

Seven minutes later, the hosts managed to take the lead through Will Grigg who capitalised on Kyle Walker’s error to go through against Claudio Bravo before finding the bottom corner of the net.

Manchester City threw everything at their hosts in the remaining minutes but Wigan’s compact defense helped them maintain their lead.

The Latics, who had defeated Manchester City in the 2013 FA Cup final, now secured their spot in this year’s quarter-final, where they’ll be playing against Southampton.
