Manchester City win the Carabao Cup after beating Arsenal 3-0
In the opening 15 minutes Arsenal missed their biggest chance of the night as Claudio Bravo kept out Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s effort. Both teams had their chances but Arsenal were the ones who came closest.
Later on, Manchester City opened the score-sheet after a long ball from Bravo reached Sergio Aguero and some poor marking from Shkodran Mustafi left the Citizens’ striker with a clear cut chance, which the Argentinean successfully chipped into David Ospina’s net.
In the 26th minute Arsenal were forced into an early substitution as Nacho Monreal couldn’t continue the match and was replaced by Sead Kolasinac.
Towards the end of the first half Aguero nearly chipped Ospina again but Laurent Koscielny was there to keep out the ball which fell at the feet of Kevin De Bruyne who smashed it inches away.
Early in the second half Vincent Kompany almost scored the second but it went just wide. Minutes later Fernandinho picked up a knock and was replaced by Bernardo Silva.
In the 58th minute, Kompany scored the goal he’s been looking for after deflecting Ilkay Gundogan’s goal into Arsenal’s net. Seven minutes later David Silva grabbed the third goal for Manchester City after slotting the ball past Ospina to seal the game for the Sky Blues.
After the third goal Arsenal looked hopeless as their silverware dream faded away with every minute passing in the game.
Arsenal’s next match will be against Manchester City in the Premier League at home, as the Gunners are getting desperate for league wins, hoping to take a role in European football next season.
