Russia defenders to miss out on World Cup due to ACL injuries
The Russian public have been exposed to a series of bad news in a period of just one month, as Spartak Moscow’s, Georgi Dzhikiya, as well as CSKA Moscow’s, Viktor Vasin will not be able to participate in the 2018 World Cup due to ACL injuries.
Both players have 21 caps between them and are undisputed starters for both club and country, so losing them can be considered as a crisis for Russia’s national team coach, Stanislav Cherchesov.
The Russians will have four games in preparation for the major tournament against Brazil, France, Austria, and Turkey. During which the coaching staff will be hoping to find proper replacements for the defenders.
Russia were drawn in group A of the World Cup alongside Egypt, Uruguay, and Saudi Arabia. Their opening game will be against Saudi Arabia on June 14. They will then face the Pharaohs on June 19 and their final game in the group stage will be against Uruguay on June 25.
