Russia manager Cherchesov watches Liverpool with an eye on Salah
Russia national team boss Stanislav Cherchesov has revealed he traveled to England for a Liverpool match and personally watched Mohamed Salah.
With five goals in the African World Cup Qualifiers, Mohamed Salah finished as joint-top scorer of the continent which makes him the Pharaohs’ target-man, including the last-gasp penalty against Congo that booked a spot for Egypt in Russia.
“When preparing for an opponent, we always take into account such details. You said that Salah is like Lionel Messi? These are not my words – yours. But with Argentina, however, we have already played, so we are already making the necessary conclusions,” Cherchesov revealed.
The manager will have a tough task on his hand after two of his starting three center-backs have picked up Anterior Cruciate Ligament ruptures, which makes their World Cup appearances unlikely.
“I was not too lazy, flew to England for the match of Liverpool and personally watched him,” continued concluded.
Egypt are set to face Russia in their second group stages match in the 2018 FIFA World Cup on the 19th of June at the Krestovsky stadium in Saint Petersburg.
