Cedric Bakambu becomes the most expensive African player in history
Congo international and new Beijing Guoan signing Cedric Bakambu has officially become the most expensive African player overtaking Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Before Bakambu’s move, Aubameyang was labeled the most expensive African player after his £60M move from German giants Borussia Dortmund in January.
Bakambu has been one of Villareal’s key players since joining in 2015, scoring a total of 46 goals before making the move to China.
The Congolese forward attracted interest from several European clubs including the likes of Newcastle, West Ham United and Paris Saint Germain but rumors claim multiple offers were denied by the Spanish club.
Bakambu is now officially set to overtake Aubameyang as the most expensive African player after completing his £73M (including taxes) transfer from Villareal to Beijing Guoan.
