Al Ahly confirm will to complete Gamal move to Helsinki
Gamal, who is the product of Al Ahly’s youth team, completed a season-long loan move to South African outfit Bidvest Wits in summer 2017. He featured in 13 league games for the Clever Boys, scoring two goals and recording a single assist.
The 26-year-old also had four appearances in the South African cup and hit the net on three occasions.
“We’re helping Amr Gamal to complete his move to HJK Helsinki,” El-Qeiy said. “He expressed his dissatisfaction to his manager which created a gap between the two and led to his exclusion, that’s why he wants to leave to be able to join the Egyptian national team.”
Gamal saw his importance in the squad decrease as he hasn’t been featured in the club’s last five matches and was left out of their CAF Champions League squad, which prompted talk of a possible departure to Finnish giants HJK Helsinki.
“Helsinki want to sign Gamal with an option to buy and are willing to pay the needed fees when they decide to permanently sign him,” he added. “The competition in Finland starts in March, we don’t have a problem to postpone his return to the club to August.”
El-Qeiy also commented on recently circulated rumors that claimed the return of Ahmed Hegazi to Al Ahly in case West Brom fails to get out of the relegation zone and drops out of the Premier League.
“That’s a technical topic that Sayed Abdel-Hafiz can talk about better,” he said. “But why would he come back? Did he fail?”
As for the news that linked Zamalek’s midfielder, Mohamed Ibrahim, with a potential move to the Red Castle El-Qeiy said that he mentioned that he’s a player any club would want to sign, but then assured that praising players does not mean that the Red Devils are going to sign them.
