OFFICIAL: Al Ahly clinch their 40th Egyptian Premier League title
Al Ahly have officially won their third Egyptian Premier League title in a row and their 40th domestic title overall with six games to spare, following Al Masry’s 0-0 draw against Entag El Harby on Monday.
Al Ahly had overcame ENPPI a day prior with a tough 1-0 win thanks to Ayman Ashraf’s goal, minimizing the distance for their 40th league title to just one point.
However, Al Masry’s failure to beat Entag meant that the Red Devils have officially secured the title six matchdays in advance.
Al Ahly are currently the undisputed league leaders with 75 points after 28 rounds. Followed by Ismaily with 53 points, Zamalek with 51 points and Al Masry 49 points, which means that none of the three teams chasing the Reds would catch up with them even after winning their remaining games.
It is probable now that the Red Devils’ coach Hossam El-Badry gives more playing time to the members of the squad with less minutes in their legs in order to shift the focus on the CAF Champions League, which has been missing from Al Ahly’s trophy cabinet since 2013.
