Court of Cassation recommend removal of Aboutrika from terror list
The Egyptian Court of Cassation has recommended accepting an appeal to cancel a court verdict that lists Al Ahly and Egypt legend Mohamed Aboutrika on a terror list.
Egypt added Aboutrika to the list in 2017. All people included on the list are subject to travel ban and face having their passport and assets frozen. As a result, Aboutrika has kept residence in Qatar while working for beIN Sports.
The decision came after he was accused of financially supporting the banned Muslim Brotherhood group. Some of his assets were frozen by the government in 2015, a mere two years after retiring from his playing career. The decision was, however, overturned in June 2016.
Later on Tuesday, the 39-year-old hinted on his personal Twitter account that he may return to Egypt after tweeting “Soon” and Egypt’s flag.
