EFA President: Friendly v Kuwait was one of Cuper’s strongest requests
Hany Abo-Reda, President of the Egyptian Football Association, said that the scheduled friendly against Kuwait was one of manager Hector Cuper’s strongest wishes in preparation to the World Cup.
During Hector Cuper and Hany Abo-Reda’s press conference, which included the announcement of the local-based players for Egypt’s upcoming friendlies, the EFA President discussed the scheduled match against Kuwait.
Abo-Reda stressed that meeting Kuwait was not a courtesy and that Egypt “wanted to meet a Gulf team in preparation for Saudi Arabia”. He added that he requested the match after consulting with Cuper, noting that Kuwait are more technically gifted than the media gives them credit for.
Lastly, Abo-Reda expressed his happiness at the lifting of the freeze on Kuwait’s footballing activities by FIFA, after Egypt was one of Kuwait’s strongest backers during the crisis.
