Mortada Mansour: Fathi, El-Said were on verge of joining Zamalek
The duo were linked with moves to Zamalek as their contracts at Al Ahly were due to expire by the end of the season.
However, after weeks of speculations, Fathi renewed his Al Ahly contract for two more years, while the future of El-Said remains unclear, with several reports linking him with a move away from the Red Castle.
The Zamalek president furiously proclaimed in an interview on LTC channel on Monday night that the Al Ahly duo were on the verge of joining the White Castle.
“I swear to God Ahmed Fathi was on the verge of joining Zamalek. I have messages from the player to prove what I am saying,” Mansour said.
“Khaled Abdel-Aziz [the minister of sports] is the reason why the deal did not go through, as the sports minister froze all our funds.
“I sent a message to the minister to give us our money so we can sign Fathi, but instead Khaled Abdel-Aziz went to Al Ahly and told them about the deal behind our back.
“Fathi was supposed to be part of our deal of the century. I want to thank Fathi for his patience but the freezing order ruined everything.
“Abdallah El-Said’s story is the exact same as Fathi’s,” added Mansour.
