Volleyball: Al Ahly reach Women’s African Club Championship final
Al Ahly women volleyball team reached the 2018 Women’s African Club Championship final after beating Kenya Pipeline 3-1.
The eight-time title winners earned a 3-0 victory over Nigeria’s Customs in the quarter-final before beating five-time winners Kenya Pipleline in the semi-final game on Tuesday.
The guests got off to a good start as they won the first set 25-22. Al Ahly, however, turned things around and made a strong comeback as they dominated the rest of the game. They won the next three sets (25-16, 25-19, 25-8).
Title holders Carthage of Tunisia, who defeated Egypt’s El-Shams in the quarter-final, also secured their spot in the final after beating Kenya’s other representative in the competition, Prisons of Kenya 3-1 (25-15, 22-25, 25-23, 25-21).
They will now face hosts Al Ahly in the final on Thursday, when the Egyptian side will be looking to win a record-extending ninth title, while the Tunisian team will be hoping to win their second African title.
