VIDEO: Bassem Morsy scores brace as Zamalek thrash Al Ragaa

Bassem Morsy

opened his scoring account for this season as he netted a brace in the White Castle’s 4-1 win over on Wednesday.

Zamalek dominated the game from the early stages, and their first attempt on target came in the fourth minute. Morsy was close to head in his first goal of the season following a cross from Zamalek midfielder Mahmoud Abdel-Aziz but the keeper parried the ball away.

Just after the 10-minute mark, Ahmed Madbouly opened the scoring as he collected the ball inside the box and spun around sending a fine shot in the back of the net to give his side a 1-0 lead.

Eight minutes later, Morsy doubled Zamalek’s lead after a low cross from right-back Hazem Emam. This marked Morsy’s first goal with the White Castle this season.

On the 32nd minute, Abdel-Aziz’s effort from the edge of the box beat Al Ragaa keeper and killed the guests’ hopes of a comeback.

To add insult to injury, Al Ragaa were reduced to 10 men around the one-hour mark after Mohamed Gabr received his second yellow of the night following a foul on Mahmoud Alaa.

Morsy was eager to add more goals as he sent a powerful shot from the edge of the box in the 68th minute but the keeper diverted it into a corner. Ten minutes later, he collected the ball inside the penalty box but his curler hit the post.

Ten minutes from time, the 26-year-old striker completed his brace as he collected Madbouly’s pass inside the box and finished from close range.

In the dying moments of the game, Al Ragaa were awarded a penalty and Hamada Nasr stepped up and scored a consolation goal for the visitors.

As Al Ahly already sealed the league title, Zamalek are currently looking to secure a second-place finish to qualify for CAF Champions League next season. The White Knights are currently second on 54 points, one ahead of Ismaily who have a game in hand.
