Arsenal move to the quarter-finals after defeating AC Milan 5-1 on aggregate
The game kicked off with a big chance that went wide for Milan’s Andrea Silva, however each side struggled to carve out chances and the game was bogged down in central midfield, until Arsenal started causing some threat only to find a flying shot stopper, Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Hakan Calhanoglu opened the scoreline as he unleashed a curling effort of sheer beauty from outside the box that left David Ospina helpless to make it 0-1 for the visitors.
A few minutes later a very controversial penalty was awarded to a diving Danny Wellbeck, who later tapped in the ball from the spot to end the first half level between the two sides.
In the second half, Milan dominated every aspect of the game which pushed Arsene Wenger to through Mohamed El Neny in for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The Pharaoh was introduced on the 68th minute, just before Donnarumma made a poor save to Granit Xhaka’s shot that found its way into the goal to make it 2-1.
In the last ten minutes Wellbeck pinned the last nail in Milan’s coffin by tapping in a header to end the game 3-1.
Arsenal went through by defeating the Rossoneri and will be in the quarter finals along with Atletico Madrid, Lazio, RasenBallsport Leipzig, Marseille, Sporting CP, Salzburg and CSKA Moscow.
