Christian Karembeu: Egypt can reach World Cup semi-final
The 1998 World Cup winner made these statements during his visit to Egypt for the World Cup trophy world tour. The trophy arrived in Cairo on Thursday for a two-day visit as part of its global tour, stopping in 91 cities in 51 countries.
“The Egyptian national team can reach the World Cup semi-final,” the former Real Madrid player told Sada El-Balad satellite channel.
“African teams have already reached the quarter-final and the next logical step for all African teams should be the semi-final,” he added.
Karembeu also believes that Egypt have a great group of players especially Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Arsenal’s Mohamed Elneny and legendary goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary. He also praised Egypt national team manager Hector Cuper, saying that he’s a “great coach”.
The Pharaohs, who reached the World Cup for the first time in 28 years, were drawn in Group A alongside hosts Russia, Uruguay, and Saudi Arabia, with their opening game being against Uruguay on June 15, before facing Russia on June 19 and Saudi Arabia on June 25.
