Egyptian Women’s Premier League mid-season review

As the first half of the 2017/18 Egyptian Women’s Premier League season has come to a close, KingFut’s Evrosina Isaac takes a look at the league’s results and its most remarkable moments. 

Almost three weeks after the league was supposed to kick-off, the Egyptian Women’s Premier League finally began on December 8. Since then, 249 goals have been scored, a team has withdrawn, and controversy has marred the matches.

Wadi Degla entered the season as both the cup and league title holders. The team have long dominated the women’s football scene in Egypt and were looking for their 10th straight title. However, Degla are facing a tough competition this season from El Tayaran.

The league kicked off with 12 teams, but currently has just 11 teams after Tanmia Sport Club withdrew after the first matchday.

The result of the week was ’s thrashing of El Tanmia Sport. Striker Magy Magdy scored what many believed to be a worldwide record of 15 goals in the match. El Tanmia Sport, who had many obstacles entering the season, withdrew after the heavy result.

Mahalla Shooting club 1-3 El Teram

6th of October 1-6 El Tayaran

El Tanmia Sport 0-18 Maadi Sports and Yacht

Al Masry al Qahiri 0-1 Kafr Saad

El Tayaran kept their first clean sheet of the new season as they beat Mahalla Shooting club 3-0 through a brace from Nouran Mohamed, and a goal by Donia Assem. Wadi Degla, on the other hand, went ahead early in their match with Alia El Zenouky scoring the opening goal. Kafr Saad equalised through Hala Elmohamady before Asmaa Ali scored a brace for Degla. In the dying minutes of the match, Elmohamady added Kafr Saad’s second goal from the spot.

Al Masry al Qahiri bounced back from their loss in the first week with a 3-1 win over El Teram. El Teram scored first through Amal Nasser before Asmaa Samaka sparked the comeback for Al Masry al Qahiri with a brace and Marwa Magdy added the third.
