Pharaohs Abroad Roundup: Elmohamady features in defeat to Bolton

Karim Hafez – Lens (France)
March 16 – Ligue 2 – Karim Hafez continued to miss due to injury as Reims defeated Lens 3-1 in the 30th fixture of Ligue 2. Following the loss, Lens currently occupy the 15th league spot with 31 points and are set to face seventh-placed Chateauroux on April 2.
Ahmed Elmohamady – Aston Villa (England)
March 17 – Championship – Ahmed Elmohamady played the 90 minutes as Aston Villa lost to Bolton 1-0 away from home. Le Fondre opened the scoring for Bolton in the 19th minute after tapping in a back-heel pass from Pratley. In the second half Aston Villa grew more into the match but they couldn’t find the equaliser. Snodgrass came very close in the 68th minute but couldn’t find the back of the net. Aston Villa’s next match will be against Hull City away on 31 March.
Amro Tarek – Orlando City (USA)
March 17 – Major League Soccer – Amro Tarek played the whole game as Orlando City suffer a 2-0 defeat to New York City FC. For the third game in a row Tarek failed to help his team grab a clean sheet as they suffered another defeat in the league. Although the first half ended goalless, Libya’s Ismael Tajouri and former Serie A star Maximiliano Morález scored two goals for the home team crushing Orlando City as Tarek is yet to win a single MLS game since signing for the Lions.
Aly Ghazal – Vancouver Whitecaps (Canada)
March 17 – Major League Soccer – Aly Ghazal was out of the squad through injury as Vancouver Whitecaps lost 4-1 to Atlanta United in the third of week of MLS. Whitecaps were down to 10 men just 13 minutes into the match as captain Kendall Watson received a straight red card for violent conduct. Josef Martínez scored from the spot two minutes later to put United ahead. As the Caps were starting to get into match in the second half, Aaron Maund scored an own goal to extend Atlanta’s lead. Only two minutes later, Martínez completed his brace to all but secure all three points. Five minutes before full-time Erik Hurtado scored a consolation goal for Vancouver. It was Atlanta who had the last word as Martínez scored again to complete the hat-trick. The result puts Vancouver Whitecaps in third place with six points from three games. They will next host Los Angeles Galaxy on March 24.
Sam Morsy – Wigan Athletic (England)
March 18 – FA Cup – Wigan’s remarkable run in the FA Cup came to an end as Southampton won 2-0 at the DW Stadium in the quarter-final. The Latics, captained by Sam Morsy, created the better of the chances in the first half but were unlucky to go 1-0 down when Hojbjerg turned in a corner. After pushing for an equaliser, Wigan were caught on the counter attack as Cedric break through and provided a composed finish to put the game beyond all doubt. The result means that Southampton will go into the draw for the semi-final at Wembley, while Wigan’s next game is away at Walsall on Wednesday March 21 at 9:45PM Cairo time.
Ahmed Hassan Kouka – FC Braga (Protugal)
March 18 – Primeira Liga – Ahmed Hassan Kouka stayed on bench while his side FC Braga thrashed GD Chaves in a 4-1 victory in the 27th round of the Primeira Liga. Brunno Viana opened the scoring, Paulinho followed and Ricardo Horta netted a brace. The victory added three points to Braga as they stand still in the 4th position on the table. Kouka’s side will meet up against the above contestant Sporting CP after the return from the international break on March 31.
