VIDEO: El-Shahat assists in Al Ain win over Al Jazira
Egypt’s Hussein El-Shahat provided an assist in Al Ain’s 3-2 victory over Al Jazira in gameweek 19 of the Arabian Gulf League.
El-Shahat continued his impressive performances since joining the UAE side on loan from Egyptian side Misr El-Makkasa during the winter transfer window. Since then, he scored seven goals and provided 12 assists in all competitions.
The 26-year-old dribbled past Al Jazira defender before sending a cross towards Swedish forward Marcus Berg inside the penalty area who headed home to give his side the lead after 12 minutes.
El-Shahat appeared to have picked up an injury and requested to be substituted at the end of the first half. He, however, started the second half before making way for Rayan Yaslam in the 63rd minute.
Twenty minutes from time, Al Ain UAE star Omar Abdulrahman ‘Amoory’ converted from the spot to make it 2-0 for the guests. Around 15 minutes later, the 26-year-old curled in a free-kick to complete his brace.
Al Jazira, however, were able to reduce the deficit in the dying moments of the game as Ali Mabkhout made it 2-1 in the 90th minute.
Al Ain remain on top of the league table with 44 points, three ahead of second-placed Al Wahda. They’ll next face Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal on April 2 in the fifth round of the AFC Champions League group stage.
