Mido: Zamalek were knocked out by an amateur club

Former Zamalek striker and coach Ahmed Hossam ‘Mido’ has expressed his disappointment after the White Knights’ defeat to Ethiopian side  in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The White Knights were knocked out of the CAF Confederations Cup as they lost to the Ethiopian side 4-3 on penalties, after a 3-3 aggregate score from both matches of the round of 32.

“What happened during the match was a complete joke! Welayta Dicha is the worst team Zamalek has ever faced in the history. With all respect, they are not a football club, they are an amateur team,” said Mido.

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker expressed his anger stating, “Welayta Dicha players do not even know how to pass the ball properly. This team would have been classified as a third-division team in Egypt.

“This is not Zamalek! There is not a single player in this team deserves the money he gets paid. The team has no soul, spirit or personality. As a fan, I would never pay anything to watch these players on the pitch.”

On the team’s formation, the former Whites coach stated, “Zamalek played with a 4-4-2 formation without any playmaker or wingers, which paralysed the whole offense.”

He added, “Despite the terrible performance in the first half, they players managed to obtain an imaginary penalty in the last few seconds of the first half. The timing of this opportunity would give any team the motive and push to play much better in the remaining time of the match.”

“There are many technical mistakes in the coach’s game plan. Moreover, Zamalek was deprived of his fans, as the club board decided to move the game to Cairo, allowing only the board members to attend the match.”

Welayta Dicha, who currently sit eighth on the Ethiopian league table, is set to advance to the play-off round, whereas the Whites will no longer compete in any African tournament this year.

Mido cannot have a moral to talk about Welayta Dicha. He had been amateur, controversial and manner-less throughout his football career. At least any one remembers the incidence he refused to leave the field when requested for substitution, took out his jersey ant threw it at his coach, Hassen Shata during African Cup of Nations some years back. The world witnessed such a stupidity from African Mido on TV Channels. There no surprise if any trash commentary comes from such a man.

Egypt and African football giant Zamalek have been knocked out of the Confederations Cup competition by an Ethiopian side, Wolaitta Dicha.
The Ethiopian side playing for the first time in the CAF club competition are into the second qualifying round after dismissing Zamalek via penalties over the weekend.
The local news portal, Soccer Ethiopia, described the victory as ‘the biggest upset of the first round.’ Wolaitta beat Zamalek 2 – 1 in the first leg before the Egyptians won by a similar margin in the second-leg forcing a shootout.
In the end, Wolaitta won by 4 – 3 to progress. A feat the country’s football federation chief described as a ‘historic victory.’
“Wolaitta Dicha beat the Egyptian giants Zamalek 4-3 on penalties to progress to the next round in CAF Confederation Cup. Congratulations on this historic victory! We’re proud!” Juneidi Basha wrote on Twitter.
Even as the players celebrated in faraway Egypt, back home in the town of Hawassa in southern Ethiopia, fans thronged the streets in jubilation.
Wolaitta Dicha are the first Ethiopian side to eliminate Zamalek from a CAF club competition. Mekelakeya, Ethiopia Bunna and Kidus Giorgis all tried to achieve the feat but were unsuccessful. Based in the town of Sodo, Woldiatta will face a team that is demoted to the Confederations Cup from the Champions League in the last qualifying round.
The draw will take place in Cairo coming Wednesday. Ethiopia will be having only one representative in the second tier CAF club tourney after KCCA of Uganda beat Kids Giorgis in the last qualifying round of the CAF Champions League.
