Al Ahly boss El-Badry admits reinforcements are needed to squad

Hossam El-Badry

Al Ahly manager Hossam El-Badry discussed the support his squad needs in terms of new signings in the summer to win the CAF Champions League this season.

The Red Devils recently secured their place in the CAF Champions League group stage after knocking off Gabon’s CF Mounana thanks to a 7-1 aggregate win.

“The squad needs support so that we can meet our fans’ expectations and win the Champions League,” El-Badry told the club’s official website. “Especially the defense as Rami Rabia was injured and Ahmed Hegazi left.”

Now that Al Ahly are currently the undisputed league leaders, El-Badry is expected to be focusing more on the CAF Champions League, which has been missing from Al Ahly’s trophy cabinet since 2013. More playing time is expected to be given to the members of the squad with fewer minutes in their legs.

“We are always discussing this with the club’s football committee to sign the most suitable players for the team,” he added.

As for the number of players on loan, the manager pointed out that he is keeping an eye on all of them and the possibility of the return of any of them to the team will depend on their performances and the team’s necessities.

“The decision to send these players on loan was based on the team’s needs and how such loans will affect them in the future. Everything was well considered,” he said. “The only player who is returning to the team for sure is Nasser Maher.”

“More chances will be given to players who did not get the chance to take part in the past period in league games to evaluate their capabilities before the start of the next season,” El-Badry concluded.
