Al Masry face Mounana in CAF Confederation Cup play-off round
Egyptian side Al Masry have been drawn against Gabonese side CF Mounana in the play-off round of the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup.
Mounana were eliminated from the round of 32 of the CAF Champions League at the hands of Egyptian champions Al Ahly. The Red Devils earned a 7-1 aggregate victory over the Gabonese side to secure their spot in the group stage, while the Mounana were dropped off Africa’s top-tier competition.
The first leg in Cairo ended in a big 4-0 win for the Red Devils, before they earned an easy 3-1 victory in Gabon.
Meanwhile, Al Masry advanced to the play-off round after a 2-2 draw on aggregate against Simba Sports Club. The Port Said-based side played out a 2-2 draw in Tanzania before settling for a goalless draw at home.
Al Masry are Egypt’s only representative in the Confederation Cup after Zamalek were knocked out of the competition after losing to Ethiopian side Welayta Dicha 4-3 on penalties.
The first leg of the play-off round is set to take place in Gabon between 6 and 8 April, while Al Masry will host Mounana 10 days later. The 16 winners of the play-off round will advance to the group stage of Africa’s second tier club competition.
