Three staff members join Héctor Cúper’s backroom team
The Egyptian national team has welcomed three new staff members, including a new assistant manager as the Argentine manager wanted to revamp the backroom staff.
The new additions are English nutritionist Laurent Bannock, Irish fitness coach John Kelly and Argentine coach Ceviro Gustavo, who will work as Cúper’s assistant.
The hire of a nutritionist was necessary as Egypt’s first game in the World Cup comes just one day after the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The Pharaohs have started their first preparatory camp for the 2018 World Cup this week, with players arriving in Zürich, Switzerland on Tuesday morning.
The camp, which will last until the 28th of March, will witness two friendlies against European Champions Portugal and Greece on March 23 and 27 respectively.
Cúper has called up 28 players for the Switzerland camp, 17 foreign-based players, and 11 other locals, including two debutants, namely Mohamed Magdy of ENPPI, and Al Ain’s new signing Hussein El-Shahat.
Egypt were drawn in Group A alongside hosts Russia, Uruguay, and Saudi Arabia, with their opening game being against Uruguay on June 15, before facing Russia on June 19 and Saudi Arabia on June 24.
