Egypt’s World Cup opponents settled for a 1-1 draw in an international friendly against Ukraine on Friday in Marbella, Spain.

The Saudi side faced Ukraine and are scheduled to play against Belgium on Tuesday as part of their preparations for the in Russia, where they were drawn in Group A alongside Egypt, hosts Russia and Uruguay.

They’ll play the opening match against Russia on June 14, before facing Uruguay and the Pharaohs on June 20 and 25, respectively.

Few minutes after the half-hour mark at the Estadio Municipal de Marbella, Artem Kravets opened the scoring for Ukraine. The Kayserispor striker found Yevhen Konoplyanka’s cross before heading the ball from the centre of the box into the bottom left corner.

Saudi Arabia just needed five minutes to level the score again. Following a corner, Fahad Al Muwallad sent a right-footed shot from a close range into the top right corner to make it 1-1 in the 38th minute.

Al Muwallad scored his side’s only goal of the game despite his lack of game time at La Liga side Levante. The 23-year-old Saudi forward joined the Spanish side on loan during the winter transfer window, but failed to make a single appearance with the club since then.

The score stayed at 1-1 as the players headed down the tunnel at the break.

Saudi national team coach Juan Antonio Pizzi made six substitutions throughout the second half and the team created a number of scoring chances but they failed to convert as the game ended in a draw.

Earlier on Friday, Russia fell to a 3-0 home defeat against record world champions Brazil while Uruguay earned a 2-0 victory over the Czech Republic.
