Gervinho: Salah is at same level as Cristiano and Messi

The Egyptian international has been in superb form for Liverpool, scoring 28 Premier League goals and is currently leading the race for Golden Boot award, four goals away from second-placed Harry Kane, with the Englishman out injured until April at minimum.

He has also the Liverpool’s all-time record for a single campaign in his sights, as he needs only one more goal to set a new record.

And current Hebei China Fortune and former Arsenal winger Gervinho has commented on Salah’s incredible season, saying the Egyptian is at the level of Cristiano and Messi.

Mohamed Salah played alongside Gervinho during his time at AS Roma, before the Egyptian joined Liverpool last Summer, while Gervinho headed to the Chinese Super League.

“I knew him at AS Roma, we played together there. When we see his numbers, he is at the same level as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi,” Gervinho told Breaking Foot.

“It’s good for him and for African football,” he added.

The 25-year-old has a massive opportunity to become the first African player to win the award since Didier Drogba, who won it twice in 2007 and 2010, and is only two goals away from breaking the Ivorian’s record as the highest scoring African in a single league campaign (29).

Salah is set to have a number of difficult matches coming up in the Premier League as Liverpool are set to take on Crystal Palace at the Selhurst Park, Man City at Anfield and then the Merseyside derby against Everton at Goodison Park.

The Egyptian winger is currently on international duty ahead of the friendlies against Portugal and Greece on March 23 and March 27 respectively.
