His form earned him a recall for the Egyptian national team and saw him make his international debut against European champions Portugal on Friday.
Even though Egypt lost the game and El-Shennawy conceded two goals, he still impressed and was praised by many, including the Pharaohs goalkeeping coach Ahmed Nagy.
“I contacted and congratulated him on his performance, the national team won a great goalkeeper,” Soliman said.
“I felt as if he played with the national team for years even though it was his first ever cap,” he added
The Egyptian national team are set to play their second game during the international break on Tuesday when they face Greece.
The Pharaohs were drawn in Group A of the 2018 World Cup alongside hosts Russia, Uruguay, and Saudi Arabia, with their opening game being against Uruguay on June 15, before facing Russia on June 19 and Saudi Arabia on June 25.
