Robbie Savage believes Salah doesn’t deserve Player of the Year gong
The Egyptian international has been in superb form for Liverpool since joining the Reds coming from AS Roma, scoring 28 Premier League goals and is currently leading the race for Golden Boot award.
Savage, however, believes that what Kevin De Bruyne is doing this season with Manchester City should grant him the award, especially that De Bruyne will most probably win at least two titles with his club.
“In a sky full of stars, Kevin de Bruyne has shone the brightest – and that’s why he is my Player of the Season,” Savage told the Mirror.
“It seems incredible, in a year when Mo Salah has scored 36 club goals and Harry Kane has hit 35, that neither of them might win the PFA’s coveted accolade for 2017-18.
“But as players across the country prepare to cast their votes, I can’t escape the glow of a Blue Moon cast by Manchester City – and especially the irresistible De Bruyne.”
“In a team which has often taken your breath away, De Bruyne has been simply outstanding in every respect: 11 goals from midfield, 19 assists, wicked set-piece delivery, weight of pass, angles, mobility and tempo,” he added.”
The 43-year-old praised Salah for his incredible goalscoring ability in his first season at Anfield but pointed out that winning titles is more important when it comes to being crowned Player of the Year.
“De Bruyne, on the other hand, will win at least two – the Premier League title and the League Cup – and he could complete a treble if City win the European Cup as well,” he concluded.
