Kasongo injured in training and will miss DR Congo game

Zamalek forward has been dealt a blow as he was injured in training ahead of his potential debut for the national team.

Following previous withdrawals by several members of the squad, Kasongo received his first call up to the DR Congo national team just over a week ago and was scheduled to make his debut against Tanzania on March 27th.

However his wait for a debut with the Leopards will go on as he suffered an injury setback in training and as such as had to withdraw from the squad himself. The duration of his injury has not yet been revealed, so it is unknown whether he will be available for Zamalek’s next game against Ismaily after the international break.

Kasongo has been in superb form for Zamalek this season, having scored 9 goals in the league and 11 goals in all competitions since joining the club from Ittihad of Alexandria last summer, and should he continue this form it is only a matter of time before he receives another callup.

The 23 year old will still have to continue to work hard to maintain a place in the national team setup, as they boast a wealth of forwards including 2017 AFCON top scorer Junior Kabananga, players with Premier League experience such as Benik Afobe and Yannick Bolasie, as well as Africa’s most expensive ever player Cedric Bakambu.

Should Kasongo be called up for the next international break, his debut will come against Nigeria in a friendly on May 25th in Nigeria.
