Michael Essien released by Indonesian club Persib Bandung
Essien joined Persib Bandung in March 2017 after he was offloaded by Greek club Panathinaikos. The 35-year-old made 29 appearances for the Indonesian side in the league, scoring five goals.
During the official team presentation on Saturday, Essien was not present among the squad for the new season.
“[Michael] Essien was not among the players we launched because we wanted to fulfil the PSSI regulation of four foreign players in a team” said club official Zainuri Hasyim.
Persib Bandung had ended last season in the 13th place of the Indonesian first division after obtaining 41 points from 34 games.
The Ghanaian international has been rumored to be on his way to a new experience in South Korea, but he is reportedly tipped to join Persib Bandung rivals Bali United.
