assistant coach Osama Nabih has revealed that three new faces will join the Pharaohs’ squad ahead of their friendly against Kuwait.

The Pharaohs, who are currently preparing for their first World Cup appearance since 1990, suffered two friendly defeats against Portugal and Greece during the March international break. They’ll have another training camp in less than two months which will see them face Kuwait on May 26.

Nabih said in a televised interview that Egypt’s squad for Kuwait will have a maximum of 28 players, adding that the technical staff have settled on 90 per cent of the squad list that will be travelling to Russia.

He added that three new faces out of seven players namely Omar El-Said, Walid Soliman, Mahmoud Abdel-Aziz, Ahmed Ali, Ahmed Goma’a, Mohamed Hamdy and Amr El-Sulaya, will join the upcoming training camp.

“The March camp was a very good chance to give an opportunity to all the players who did not have the chance to play often in the past period,” Nabih said.

“There are some players who didn’t get to play in the past period like Ramadan Sobhi, Omar Gaber, Ahmed Elmohamady and Momen Zakaria, and it was necessary to give them an opportunity to play in our Zurich camp.

“We don’t differentiate between any of the players who’re called up to the camp,” he added.

The March training camp saw two goalkeepers make their international debut as Al Ahly’s Mohamed El-Shennawy and Ismaily’s Mohamed Awad featured against Portugal and Greece respectively.

“Mohamed El-Shennawy had a wonderful start and became a decent addition to the team, as well as Mohamed Awad who did well despite the pressure that was placed on him,” Nabih added.

“There will always be surprises in the national teams’ squad lists ahead of the World Cup,” he added.

Egypt, who were drawn in Group A, will kick off their World Cup campaign against Uruguay on June 15, before facing hosts Russia on the 19th and Saudi Arabia on the 25th.
