Mohamed Elneny became indispensable for Egypt, says Mido

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Ahmed Hossam ‘Mido’ praised after his recent performances with and the Egyptian national team.

Elneny, who renewed his contract with the Gunners few days ago, was part of the Egypt squad that faced Portugal and Greece in March’s international break in preparation for the 2018 Russia World Cup.

Mido, who previously criticisied Elneny and claimed he’s not good enough to join Egypt’s squad, took to twitter to praise the 25-year-old midfielder after his recent performances.

The former Wadi Degla manager admitted that he was wrong about Elneny and misevaluated the former Basel midfielder. He added that he’s astonished by the player’s performances, saying he is irreplaceable in Egypt’s team.

“I have closely followed Arsenal’s last three games and Egypt’s last two matches from the stadium and I have to admit that I was wrong about Elneny and that I am dazzled by the levels he offers in the last period, where he became an indispensable player for the Egyptian team. Congrats on renewing his Arsenal contract,” Mido tweeted.

Arsenal’s last three games saw Elneny help his side beat Milan home and away in the UEFA Europa League, and overcome Watford in the Premier League.

Elneny, who joined Arsenal from Swiss side Basel in January 2016, received little game time in his first season with the Premier League side. However, Elneny managed to turn his situation around with the Gunners, as he has made 26 appearances for Arsenal this season, scoring once and assisting twice, and winning the club’s Player of the Month award for January.

He played all of Arsenal’s games in the Europa League this season, helping them reach the quarter-finals, where they will face Russian side PFC CSKA Moscow.
