Amr Gamal makes Helsinki debut
Egypt international Amr Gamal has made his debut for HJK Helsinki having joined the club a week ago from Al Ahly on loan.
The 26 year old striker was plying his trade in the South African league with Bidvest Wits, however a recent lack of playing time led to Al Ahly cutting the loan short and sending him to Finland where he is something of a replacement for Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos who joined Rangers last summer.
Gamal made his debut by coming on in the 78th minute for Klauss, who was one of the goalscorers in a 2-0 win over KuPS. The other goal was scored by Finland international winger Riku Riski. As it was a Suomen Cup game, the result means that Helsinki are in the semi finals where they will meet one of Inter Turku, Honka or EIF.
Due to the extremely cold weather conditions in Finland, there is a very long winter break which means that the Veikkausliiga season is yet to begin. As a result, Gamal may make his league debut on the opening game of the season against Ilves. Helsinki are comfortably the most successful club in the country, and are reigning champions going into the 2018 season.
