Maradona praises Hossam Ghaly following loss to Al Ahly
Al-Fujairah manager Diego Armando Maradona praised Al Ahly midfielder Hossam Ghaly after their friendly loss against Al Ahly on Tuesday.
The Red Devils beat the Emirati side 4-1 during a friendly game in celebration of their 50th anniversary, thanks to a goal from team captain Hossam Ghaly and Islam Mohareb’s hattrick.
The Egyptian giants took advantage of the international break and made sure all of their players participated in that game, the same goes to Al Fujairah who saw players from other clubs wear their shirt in celebration of this event, including 2016 Asian footballer of the year Omar Abdulrahman.
And the Red Devils’ performance made the Argentinian legend compare Al Ahly to South American giants Boca Juniors during a post-match interview.
“Al Ahly is like Boca Juniors, not only in terms of the performance of their players on the field, but also through the masses of fans who filled the stadium and encouraged their players,” Maradona said
The 57-year-old also praised Al Ahly captain Hossam Ghaly after the game as he told him “I like your playing style”, which the midfielder responded to by saying “I love you very much, you made us love football, its excitement, and its beautiful art.”
Maradona took charge of the Emirati side in May 2017 and they currently sit second in the UAE First Division, just four games before the end of the season. Their next game will be against Al Arabi on March 31.
Meanwhile, Al Ahly, who were confirmed as the Egyptian Premier League champions with six games to spare, will face Tanta in their next game on Monday.
